On this day one Robert Kirkton, a monk at Peterborough, received his commendatory letters from William Ramsey, Abbot of the monastery to Thomas, Bishop of Lincoln. These letters confirmed his status as a priest and, as protocol required, he moved on. Twenty-three years later he returned as the penultimate Abbot of Peterborough.
